About Us

What is the purpose of jobbala.com?

Our purpose is to provide a resource to individuals enabling them to effectively research potential places of employment. We do this by providing a venue for people to rate how their current and past jobs treat their employees.

Why is researching an employer prior to working there significant?

If you worked for a bad boss or employer, you know the answer to this already. Personally we have seen the effects of poor management on the individuals who work in such an environment and on the overall future of the company.

What are the effects of poor management?

  • High employee turnover
  • Damaged employee morale
  • Lack of confidence/consideration about the company's future

What are the effects of good management?

  • Overall sense of security on the part of the employees
  • Confidence in the leadership and direction of the company
  • Positive work ethics due to a drive to see the employer succeed
  • Overall sense of comradery

What spurred the creation of jobbala.com

During a period of unemployment and job searching, Matt found it difficult at times to answer the question "Is this employer a good place to work." Resources on how employers treat their employees are limited. Most searches on the internet about a company do not indicate how its employees feel about the company. At that point Matt was limited to his network of friends to do the research necessary. Although the network of friends is generally a reliable way to do such research, it severely limits what employers you are able to inspect. This forces the following risks/limitations:

  1. Your list of potential employers may be small and/or limited by your network of friends.
  2. You may be forced to blindly take a job and risk working for years in an unhappy environment just so you can make ends meet and keep your integrity.

Won't there always be bad places to work? Why do you think you will have any impact on that?

Some of you are probably saying that we are pursuing an overly utopian concept. To a certain extent you may be right, but that should not keep us from trying. We believe that by encouraging good places of employment we can improve the working conditions of all, much like unions. The effects of jobbala.com can be the following:

  • Employers that are good to work for will become more competitive in the market place. Those who treat their workers well will be able to attract and retain high quality workers at a lower cost. Also, due to longer retention, the cost of training employees will decrease
  • Poorly managed employers will have an increased cost of operation. They will pay more money to attract high quality workers, or offer a mediocre product or service to their clients. Costs will also rise due to increased employee turnover. This will come in two ways. 1.) Overall inconsistency in company structure and product offering. 2.) Training of new employees
